Update: Green Lantern’s Suit CGI?

So the dudes over at /film are saying they have inside sources telling them that Ryan Reynolds will be donning a complete CGI suit when in costume form as Green Lantern. The logic behind this according to the source is that the suit is meant to look alien, as if a being itself, perhaps constantly changing/manipulating? For those not familiar with Green Lantern, his powers are generated from his Power Ring – he can change into his suit on command, no need for phone booths or ripping shirts. This also means he would have to change his suit “mid-scene” which for practical reasons would have to be done in post. This is a risky move even with the amazing advances in CGI especially in a post-Avatar world. The reason its risky is that it could come off as amazing, or absolutely dreadful if not handled correctly. Nobody wants to see a floating Ryan Reynold’s head on a CGI body. It needs to be flawless.

Side note: Isn’t it funny how poor Ryan Reynold’s once again doesn’t get to show off his glorious abs in a super hero movie? When he played Deadpool in Wolverine, in the final scene it is not Reynold’s the entire scene was done by stunt man Scott Adkins, Ryan’s face was put on in post-production.

Resident Evil: Afterlife – Teaser Trailer

Remember when Avatar was being made? All that talk about the amazing 3D technology James Cameron helped pioneer… which actually turned out to be quite amazing? Well guess what, we’ve hit the point where it’s actually being used as a marketing ploy – yes that’s right the highest grossing film is now being used as a means to market other films. Yesterday at Wonder Con, Screen Gem’s unveiled the world premier of the following teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife, which features every cliché action trailer moment, including a remixed rock song (A Perfect Circle), slow motion, breaking glass, gun slinging, and flash forwarding text touting “Advanced 3D technology”.

So they stole the music from the Repo Men trailer, and the reverse shooting scene from Matrix Reloaded. I have nothing to say about this movie other than “cha-ching”.

Watch This: Kick-Ass Red Band Clip

Lionsgate has released a 1 minute red band clip for Kick-Ass this week, the clip features Nicolas Cage as the character “Big Daddy” kicking some… well.. ass. A weird thing to note in this clip is the music from 28 Days Later, an interesting choice considering all previous footage as shown a more campy approach and this score adds a real dramatic element to the scene, which is quickly diminished with Mark Strong’s closing comment. The action does have a real comic book feel to it, why it’s red band I’m not too sure.

REVIEW: Clash of the Titans 2010

This weekend we finally get to see Sam Worthington in an action movie! Oh wait… never mind. Clash of the Titans in 2d to 3d is a mindless piece of cinema that really does not need to be watched, I’m gonna say that right up front. It’s not hard to tell from the trailer that this movie really doesn’t require much thought, which sometimes is a good thing – who doesn’t love a mindless action flick? Michael Bay you say? Funny. Clash is about a young man named Perseus (Sam Worthington) who is actually the son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), the all mighty creator of the humans. Anyways the human’s are getting fed up with the gods after they attempt fishing a couple of times and get nothing but weeds, so they destroy Zeus’s statue. Long story short this really pisses off Zeus and the anger from the humans awakens Hades (Ralph Fiennes) Zeus’ evil underworld bro. Zeus allows Hades to start reeking havoc on the humans in hopes they will once again start praying to the god’s (feeds their immortality) Well amidst all of Hades havoc reeking, Perseus’ “foster family” gets murdered so he voes to seek revenge. As you can probably tell at this point I really did not like the story of this movie, having not seen the original I can’t say if it’s any better or worse, but honestly I had no interest in any of the characters regardless of how talented the actors were. Perseus joins a small army of people from Argon and they set out on a journey to “damn the gods”. What follows is a few set pieces involving giant scorpions, a fight scene with Medusa, flying horses, crazy witches, old black magic mummy looking things, and a final battle with “The Kraken” a huge ugly octopus looking creature. This movie is about as original as a peanut butter sandwich at a new age restaurant, it didn’t need to be made and it especially did not need to be converted to 3D. I watched it in 2D and there was never a point where I thought “this movie is really missing a dimension” I have however seen about 5 minutes of the flick in the 3D and the early reports are true – it sucks. Characters look like cardboard cut outs – it looks like one of those optical illusions where you have to cross your eyes to see the herd of dinosaurs. I will say that the special effects were quite good, but that is something we have to expect with today’s technology, nothing groundbreaking but still very good.

Overall I would avoid this film, then again given this weekend’s other releases it’s better than The Last Song, but I would rather see How To Train Your Dragon again, then watch this.

Hey guys were back! And now with WordPress back end support, we can now better organize posts, making things easier for you guys to navigate in order to get the best information quickly. So a few new things to mention, no more pages! Now everything is in categories which are accessible on the right hand side, every post will be on the home page – but you can filter out specific information by selecting one of the relevant categories or tags. We have better comment implementation, you will notice its is neater and more organized. We are planning to add Disqus support in the near future as well. Now it’s much easier to become a writer for ETSN, with wordpress we can allocate accounts to writers which gives them publishing approval for posting reviews, features, and whatever else you can think of. MATT DAMON DOING IS BEST BOURNE IMPRESSION: GREEN ZONE TRAILER

What happens when you have a successful movie franchise that just so happens to be out of source material, well you get the team that created it back together to make a similar movie, but just different enough to disassociate it from it’s successful clone. That’s what The Green Zone is. Starring Matt Damon as a military man who is the perfect soldier.. yadda yadda yadda… we’ll talk more after you watch.

The Bourne references are clear I mean it’s avoidable with the same Director and main star, but is that really a bad thing? I mean The Bourne franchise is the 007 of the USA so why not make him even more American, I especially like the modern warfare setting (see The Kingdom) so I am definitely putting this on my must see of 2010. What do you guys think?
